The new WTA chair has been appointed following a sports administration career that spanned positions at the NBA, an NHL franchise and the Washington Nationals.

Recently named Women's Tennis Association (WTA) leader Valerie Camillo is familiar with long hours from past positions - notably as a board member for a tourism firm managing American celebrated artist Dolly Parton's theme parks.

As well as the expertise into Parton's brand empire, Camillo steps into the top of women's tennis with a wealth of experience across sport and entertainment, having held strategic positions at the National Basketball Association (NBA), National Hockey League (NHL) and Major League Baseball (MLB).

The new leader's goal will be to ensure the WTA and its leading stars - featuring Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek - obtain meaningful share of the pie.

"Throughout female athletics, funding, viewership and coverage expand significantly.

"Generally obstacles for women's competitions requires creating visibility, gaining audience and engagement," continued the new leader.

"The WTA faces distinct circumstances - having established legacy, we have an incredible legacy, massive worldwide audience, and some of the most famous, best-rewarded players globally."
