Micky van de Ven Brace Ends Everton's Unbeaten Streak at New Stadium

The Tottenham defender scored on two occasions as Spurs extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced twice from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the scores a short while after Van de Ven's first goal, directing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine saves to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the referee decided that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

This victory moves Thomas Frank's team into third place in the division, a handful of points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

Everton stay 14th and sit six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender excels in duties at both ends of the field

After a uninspiring midweek display in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on goal, the manager opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball toward the six-yard box for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And the captain - filling in as skipper in Cristian Romero's absence - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was equally impressive in defence, partnering effectively with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Toffees lacking striker's instinct

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have worn off slightly and fans headed to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home will not be a massive worry for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's pair of established strikers - had netted only a single goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor tally on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

Beto's form was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having room and time to reposition for a more conventional shot that would have tested Vicario.

Barry, as well, failed to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It was not for a shortage of chance. Most of Everton's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who relentlessly delivered threatening crosses into the Tottenham penalty area.
